Indigenous Learning in New Zealand
University of Waikato

I traveled abroad to Aotearoa (New Zealand) with NSCC International in partnership with North Island College and the University of Waikato. During our stay, we were hosted in a Marae, a traditional Māori meeting house. We immersed ourselves in Māori culture, learning from their traditions and practices, and celebrated our shared Indigeneity, fostering a deep sense of connection and mutual respect.

2023 – 2024
Indigenous Youth Policy School
Indigneous Youth Roots

I graduated from the Indigenous Youth Policy School, a comprehensive 9-month program with five small cohorts across Canada. Throughout this program, we honed our skills in reading policy and writing policy briefs and deepened our understanding of Indigenous rights, civil rights movements, leadership, and governance. At the end of the program, we participated in a policy hackathon, where our challenge was to present a policy brief on the implementation of UNDRIP. Our AST cohort chose to focus on education in the Atlantic Region, crafting a detailed and impactful policy proposal.
